ചലച്ചിത്രസംവിധായകനാണ് അനില് കുമാര്. 1963 മെയ് 3ന് പുരുഷോത്തമന് നായരുടെയും ലക്ഷ്മികുട്ടിയമ്മയുടെയും മകനായി ആലപ്പുഴയില് ജനിച്ചു. 1989 മുതല് ചലച്ചിത്രരംഗത്ത് സജീവം. 1989 പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ അനന്ത വൃത്താന്തം ആണ് ആദ്യമായി സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ചിത്രം. പിന്നീട് പോസ്റ്റ് ബോക്സ് നമ്പര് 27, വെല്കം ടു കൊടെക്കനാല് എന്നീ ചിത്രങ്ങള് ചെയ്തു. മുപ്പതിലധികം ചിത്രങ്ങള് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1998ല് പ്രശസ്ത മലയാളം ചലച്ചിത്ര നടി കല്പ്പനയെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്തു. 2012ല് വേര്പിരിഞ്ഞു.
